Tanzania Safari FAQ's
The best time to go on a safari in Tanzania is from June to October. During this time, it’s dry and the temperature is around 68-86°F (20-30°C). You can see most animals during the day. Walking safaris are also a better option, but don’t forget to wear a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun.
Tanzania has two seasons: dry (June-October) and wet (November-May).
Tanzania is a safe place to visit, especially if you’re with a tour group. Your travel guide will know which areas to stay away from. Be careful of pickpocketing in the big cities, but this is less of a problem on safaris in remote parts of Tanzania. If you’re traveling alone, it’s best to have a local guide with you on your safari. Ask your hotel about any areas to avoid and don’t walk around by yourself at night.
Tanzania has many beautiful national parks for tourists to visit. The most famous ones for a safari are the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Gombe, Mahale, Ruaha and Selous. If you’re an adventure-seeker or simply someone who loves exploring nature, Tanzania’s Northern Circuit is the perfect destination for you! Six national parks make up this breathtaking circuit, each with its unique characteristics and wonders that are sure to leave you in awe. The Serengeti is home to the Great Migration, where millions of wildebeest and zebras cross the plains in search of water and pasture. Ngorongoro Crater is a natural wonder filled with an abundance of wildlife and a world-renowned conservation area. Lake Manyara National Park is renowned for its tree-climbing lions and a diverse range of bird species. Tarangire National Park is known for its large herds of elephants and baobab trees. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit each of these amazing places and create unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime!
Serengeti National Park offers Great Wildebeest Migration tracking, Big Five viewing, and hot air ballooning. As Tanzania’s oldest reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it attracts the largest number of predators in the world. Witness over 2 million animals including wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle during the migration season from late January to September. Predators trail and hunt the herds, with the best time for predation being from late January to February. The Seronera area is crowded in the dry season from June to October.
You can do lots of things at Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, like looking at the really old crater, seeing big animals called the Big Five, or visiting a Masai Village. You can see lots of animals and beautiful views here. You can see predators and the black rhino easily, and also see black-backed jackals and spotted hyenas, and pink flamingos at a lake. The Ngorongoro Crater is very popular and has trees around the top and grass on the floor where you can see elephants. The best time to visit is in the wet season because everything is green, but it can be hard to see animals in long grass. It’s expensive to go and can get crowded.
Visit Lake Manyara National Park for canoe safaris, night drives, and treetop walks. This small yet bountiful park has diverse habitats including an alkaline lake and acacia woodland. Spot troops of blue monkeys, olive baboons, and if you’re lucky, tree-climbing lions. Other wildlife includes elephants, buffalos, and different species of antelope. Wildlife viewing and birdwatching are good all year round, but it can get crowded and pricey. Opt for a morning safari to avoid the afternoon rush.
Tarangire National Park offers lots of fun things to do like seeing elephants, baobab trees, and birds. Like Serengeti, from June to October, animals come to the water sources, making it easy to see lots of safari animals in one place. The Tarangire River is full of wildlife, especially elephants, and there are big trees and swamps too. You can spot lots of birds here, but it’s harder to see predators because of the thick bushes. It gets cold in the mornings and nights so tourists should wear warm clothes if they plan on going on a drive during these times. Lots of tourists visit the park from June to October.
Arusha National Park offers a variety of activities such as canoeing, walking safaris, birdwatching during the wet season and climbing Mount Meru. Despite being less popular, it’s a great choice to start a safari. The park is best visited during the wet months since the weather is pleasant and wildlife viewing is impressive. Bird lovers can enjoy over 400 bird species, while buffalo, giraffe, and antelope are commonly seen. The black-and-white colobus monkeys are found in the Arusha forests.

Lost luggage is a common problem and insurance can help with cancelled flights or tours. Your insurance should include medical and emergency coverage. If you’re climbing Kilimanjaro, you need to buy insurance for “hiking up to 6,000m”.
