Itinerary
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by the professional safari team from Outstanding Tanzania Safaris and transferred to a luxury safari lodge in Arusha. This first day is designed for rest and acclimatization in beautiful tropical surroundings. You will receive a detailed safari orientation briefing and have the opportunity to prepare for your upcoming Northern Circuit wildlife adventure. Depending on your arrival time, you may choose to enjoy the swimming pool, stroll through the lodge gardens, or partake in optional activities like a coffee plantation tour or a spa treatment.
After breakfast, you will depart for Tarangire National Park, one of Tanzania’s hidden safari gems renowned for its massive elephant herds and prehistoric baobab trees. You will spend the day on exciting game drives across scenic savannah landscapes while spotting lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, and leopards. Tarangire is also a haven for bird watchers, with hundreds of colorful species found along its riverbanks. The day concludes with a memorable sundowner viewing before heading to your luxury lodge for dinner.
Your journey continues to Lake Manyara National Park, famous for its rare tree-climbing lions and lush groundwater forests. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, the park offers diverse ecosystems ranging from dense forests to open lakeshore habitats. You will observe elephants, baboons, and abundant birdlife, including flamingos and hippos near the lake. The afternoon offers a perfect opportunity for nature observation and photography before retiring to a luxury lodge with stunning views.
Today you travel through the scenic Ngorongoro Highlands toward the legendary Serengeti National Park. The drive offers spectacular landscapes and wildlife sightings en route to the park entrance. In the afternoon, you will embark on your first game drive through the endless plains, searching for the iconic residents of the Serengeti: lions, cheetahs, leopards, and large herds of zebras and wildebeests. The evening is spent at a luxury tented camp, where you can relax by a traditional campfire under the vast African sky.
Spend the entire day exploring the wildlife-rich plains of Central Serengeti with extensive game drives through predator territories and migration corridors. You will have the chance to witness extraordinary wildlife activity, such as lions hunting or cheetahs stalking prey, while observing massive wildebeest migration herds depending on the season. A picnic bush lunch will be served in the wilderness to maximize your viewing time, followed by a golden sunset safari experience before returning to camp for a gourmet dinner.
Following a final morning game drive in the Serengeti to catch the animals at their most active, you will proceed toward the spectacular Ngorongoro Highlands. The journey takes you through beautiful volcanic landscapes and Maasai territories, offering panoramic crater views and cultural encounters along the way. You will arrive at a luxury crater-view lodge in time to relax and soak in the breathtaking scenery from your balcony as the sun sets over the caldera rim.
Today you descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for one of Africa’s greatest wildlife experiences. The crater floor hosts an extraordinary concentration of animals, including the endangered black rhino, lions, elephants, and buffaloes. You will enjoy a picnic lunch beside the hippo pool, surrounded by the dramatic walls of this natural volcanic sanctuary. After an intensive morning of wildlife viewing and photography, you will ascend and head to the nearby town of Karatu for your final night on safari.
After a final breakfast, you will begin your return journey to Arusha. The drive through the scenic countryside offers opportunities for souvenir shopping at local markets and a final safari debriefing with your guide. FAQs
The Northern Circuit is home to the most famous parks in the world, including the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. It offers incredible wildlife density and the unique opportunity to see the Big Five and the Great Migration in a relatively compact geographic area, making it ideal for first-time visitors and photography enthusiasts.
While wildlife sightings are never 100% guaranteed, our guides are experts at tracking and the Northern Circuit is one of the best places to find them. The Ngorongoro Crater is particularly famous for its resident population of black rhinos, which are often the hardest of the five to spot.
Absolutely. All Northern Circuit safaris are private, so the itinerary can be adjusted around your interests. Bird watchers can spend more time in Lake Manyara, while travelers focused on big cats can prioritize longer drives in the Serengeti.
The custom 4x4 Toyota Land Cruisers feature a lifting roof that allows 360-degree, unobstructed wildlife and landscape viewing. This is especially useful for photography and improves the safari experience during close wildlife sightings.
For luxury accommodation on the Northern Circuit, especially lodges overlooking the Ngorongoro Crater or camps in Central Serengeti, booking 6 to 12 months in advance is recommended, particularly for the peak migration months from June to October.
